BACKPACKING THE SIERRA, CALIFORNIA
july 15 - 20, 2019
Say "yes" to an outdoor adventure this summer
Join the Sober Outside booze-free community while backpacking the Sierra Nevada in California
Ready to get off the grid? Ready to connect with like-minded women on the same journey of soul fulfillment?
This trip brings together a community of women who seek serenity, speak the language of self-empowerment and recovery and crave the peace of wild spaces. Together, we will take on a section John Muir Trail in California. This trip is about drawing inspiration, encouragement and clarity as much from the scenery — some of the most epic in the country — as it is from each other.
As for the trail: This stretch of path has been chosen because it's a solid match for women who lead an active life and are new to backpacking. It's also a great fit for women who have backpacking know-how who want to experience this fabulous setting.
This trip is fully guided by a professional, full-time guide from Wildland Trekking. All gear, save for hiking boots, is included, so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure.
The Destination
The John Muir Trail is famous for awe-inspiring views, and one of the sunniest, mildest climates in the country. In other words, this is the best of both worlds: Spectacular scenery with conditions perfect for a first-timer.
The path we'll travel takes us to California's Mammoth Lakes. This is a chance to get out and experience the wilderness of the High Sierra as we hike the trail between Yosemite Valley and the Sierra National Forest. This is the country of mule deer, bighorn sheer, marmots, songbirds and meadows of wildflowers.

The experience
Each day, we will hike between 5 and 7 miles. For those who are newer to backpacking, rest assured that you can do this! If you'd like to bump up your fitness before the trip, our guide offers a plan to increase your mileage at home before the trip so that you have every confidence that you're ready.
On the trail, we will be guided by a full-time professional outdoor wilderness leader from Wildland Trekking, a guided hiking tour company founded in 2005. Wildland Trekking is also providing all the gear necessary for the trip.

Your accommodations
You can't get closer to nature than this!
Each night, we will be sleeping under the stars in high-end, light-weight tents. We'll wake up each morning to a new view, varying from alpine lakes to green meadows.
Tents are provided by our outfitter. So are sleeping bags and sleeping pads. It's recommended that you share a tent, but, if you don't mind carrying a few extra pounds, you can also opt to have a tent to yourself. We're flexible!

We also welcome travelers who have no problem not drinking and simply enjoy the company of teetotalers. However, if you identify as having an active and ongoing drinking problem, or if you are unsure about going a week without drugs or alcohol, we ask that you hold off on applying for a trip. If you need assistance in finding help, please let us know. We will do our best to offer support and encouragement, and know that after you do get help, we welcome you on a future trip. <3
